Basic Information

- One of the most exciting and unique resources that the MIT-Haystack
Observatory has developed is the Small Radio Telescope, or SRT. Some
of the lessons listed above use this tool. For more general information
about the SRT, including information on how to build one for your
school, go to our SRT Information Page
- Go to our Radioastronomy Page for an
overview of radio astronomy at Haystack plus links to activities, tutorials,
and Powerpoint presentations.
- The study of space weather is the primary focus of the Atmospheric
Sciences group at the Haystack Observatory. Go to our Space Weather Page for an overview of their activities.
- A short introduction to radio astronomy at the high
school/undergraduate college level.
- As more and more schools are equipped with computers and projectors,
the use of Powerpoint presentations in the classroom is becoming
more wide-spread. Many of the above lessons contain Powerpoint presentations.
Go to our Presentations Web Page for links
to all of the Powerpoint presentations on the MIT-Haystack web-site that
are suitable for high school classroom use.
- This is a short list of terms that you may come across
as you go through this site. The definitions have been
written to make them understandable to the non-scientists.
There are also links to more intense on-line glossaries.
- These sets of astronomical images can be used to demonstrate the need
for multi-wavelength observations. Four images of eight different
astronomical objects is included. It’s a pretty challenging game!
