Access to the 37m telescope control computer, FOURIER can only be attained through a Secure Shell Login (SSH)
Users can obtain a password and login name from rthe Haystack Astronomy for approved use of the 37m telescope. These instructions are designed for
those users who are working from a Microsoft Windows Operating System and who are using an X-Windows emulator such as XWin32 (Starnet)
Download PuTTY
If your X-Windows emulator does not include SSH, a freeware program called PuTTY can be downloaded from:

1. Under "Host Name (or IP address)" enter: fourier.haystack.mit.edu
2. Under Protocol select: SSH
3. Under "Saved Sessions" enter: fourier.haystack.mit.edu (or a preferred session name)
4. Click: "Save" under "Load, save or delete a stored session"
5. Click: "Load"
6. In the left-side column of the PuTTY window, Click the heading "Tunnels" under the SSH heading.
7. Select the box at the top titled "Enable X11 Forwarding"
8. Click: "Open"
9. A window will open with a smaller PuTTY window titled "Security Alert"This alert will open on the first access to any IP. In this case, click on the YES button. In the remaining (probably black) window, enter your login and password.
When you have successfully logged in to Fourier, AND you are in X-Window mode,
type: Xterm
at the FOURIER prompt.
You should see an "Xterm fourier" window open on your screen. You will now be ready to begin your Haystack session.
