Umbrella User Interface
![]()
Umbrella is the user interface for all single-antenna radio-astronomy operations at Haystack.
Umbrella utilizes one-word or one-line text commands, which can be typed by a user or, more typically, read from a previously prepared schedule. While most beginning users would type discrete commands into the Umbrella console, larger scale observing programs can combine sets of commands into larger command sets called macros. These macro sets can be parts of a larger observing schedule designed to operate the antenna from a script to minimze typing errors and maximize actual observing time.
User tutorials and the Umbrella manual should be sufficient to build an observing schedule for any in-class demonstration, laboratory exercise or individual observing program.
