** Note: The setup parameter changes needed when switching amoung observing modes are in bold type.
The first setup assumes the user is conducting 2-channel, frequency switched, spectral line observations. The Bandwidth= of 17.8 MHz is a typical value although there are six standard bandwidths available on the video converter (160, 53.3, 17.8, 5.93, 1.98 and .658). Frequency switching requires the CDPmode= setting to be 2U (2 channel, Unmodulated Calibration) when using the vane calibration system. Also note the Beamswitch= command is set to off when using frequency switching.
The second example, 2 channel Total Power shows a setup where NO switching is being implemented. This is NOT RECOMMENDED for 3mm observing because of atmospheric conditions, but is included here as a guide for those who may have sound reasons for conducting such observations. Note that the CDPMode= is set to 2U and both the FrequencySwitch= AND the BeamSwitch= settings are Off. The Bandwidth= is set to 17.8 as in the first example assuming a spectral line observation.
The third example, 2 channel, Beam Switching, is the "normal" setup for two channel beamswitched spectroscopy. Note that when the BeamSwitch= is set to on, you must match that action by setting the CDPmode = 2M.
The fourth example is a typical setup for 2 channel, Continuum measurements. The only difference from the "generic" setup is the CDPMode= setting of 2M. Two channels can be used when you are coducting on/off measurements
The fifth 7mm-example setup is the "generic" utilizing only 1 channel, continuum observations. This setup would normally be limited to pointing routines, drift-scan maps or other observations that might require higher correlator resolution from a single receiver. The example shows a continuum setup and the relationship of SetupRow= and VCOffset=. A SetupRow=A command configures only one video converter thus requiring action in only the first field of the four field VCOffset= command.
** Note: The receiver setups require the Line Rest Frequencies to be listed in KILOHERTZ.

In the above 13mm receiver setups, several items should be noticed. The SetupRow= command will usually be set to "A" since there is only one channel available. This is now setup automatically by the CDPMode= command. Some special setups allow some simultaneous observation of two transitions of the same molecule and thus two video converters. The use of this type of setup is limited and feasibility should be discussed with Haystack staff.
The CDPMode= command points to the common setting for 13mm.
CDPMode=1U, "One channel, unmodulated calibration", is accomplished with the deployment a vane calibrator in front of the feed horn for a specified time period (usually ten seconds). That signal is then compared to the signal of an equal amount of time with the vane in the retracted or stowed position.
ALL 13mm calibration is done with CDPMode=1U
For 13mm Drift-scan mapping The calibration mode is CDPMode=1U. The user then must change to CDPMode = 1M for the data taking ONLY!
** Note: the BeamSwitch= command is Off for the 13mm examples. Beamswitching IS NOT available for the 13mm system.
