Objectives     With the world increasingly wired for high-speed data communications, the prospects for routine global electronic transmission of VLBI data (dubbed 'e-VLBI') become brighter every day. Not only will e-VLBI help to eliminate costly and complex recording equipment, but it should eventually lead to data rates and volumes unattainable by traditional recording equipment. This will lead to improved sensitivity, allowing new science to be explored at lower costs. This international two-day meeting at MIT Haystack Observatory is being organized to explore the current state of high-speed astronomy data transmission, concentrating on e-VLBI, but recognizing the synergy with other geodesy/astronomy applications requiring real-time or near-real-time high-speed data transmissions. Among the topics to be discussed:
Important Dates
Location     The workshop will be hosted by MIT Haystack Observatory in Westford, Massachusetts, USA. Haystack Observatory is situated amid rolling hills on 1300 forested acres of MIT land 35 miles northwest of Boston. The meeting will take place at the Observatory, which offers comfortable and spacious surroundings with modern conference facilities. Early April is the very beginning of spring in central New England, typified by cool sunny days and crisp clear nights, though the weather can be quite unpredictable during this time of year. Abstract Submission

Contributions of oral and poster presentations is encouraged. We expect most presentations to be
of a technical nature, but encourage potential users to make their needs and wishes known as well. We will try to accommodate
as many contributions as possible, but in order to balance the meeting content, we may ask some
contributors to switch from oral to poster or vice versa. We plan to have most contributed oral
presentations of length ~20 minutes including questions. In addition, we will invite key networking specialists
and providers to present their views and projections for meeting the challenges presented by e-VLBI and to provide an opportunity for interaction with the VLBI/astronomy community.
Program and Schedule

The meeting program is being coordinated by a program committee
chaired by Alan Whitney (USA) and including
Yasuhiro Koyama (Japan),
Steve Parsley (Europe) and
Jon Romney (USA).
Lunch will be provided each day of the workshop and dinner will be provided on Monday, 8 April. Agenda (Updated 3/22/02)Mark 5 Agenda - Wed. 4/10/02 (Updated 3/26/02)     Registration     Registration is now open. There is no registration fee. Due to the capacity of Haystack Observatory conference facilities, attendence will be limited to about 80, so register early! Everyone who plans to attend the meeting must register. Transportation

Haystack Observatory is about an equal distance from two regional airports-
Boston Logan, MA, and Manchester, NH. The Manchester airport is closer
to the meeting hotel and is unaffected by Boston traffic, but is served by somewhat fewer flights.
There are several choices for ground transportation to the Sheraton Tara Hotel. Use the phone numbers below to reserve a seat. All prices are for Boston Logan. Manchester may be somwhat cheaper.
Lodging     A block of rooms has been set aside at the Sheraton Tara in Nashua, NH. The hotel has a full-service restaurant and bar. Room rate is $109 + state tax. Participants are requested to make their own reservations if possible. Please mention "e-VLBI Meeting" to get this rate in our block of rooms. Rooms will be released from the block after 22 March 2002; please make your reservations before then. To make reservations you must contact the hotel directly via phone, fax or email. They require a credit card to guarantee your room. If you need assitance with your reservations, please contact
Heidi Johnson.
There will be a welcoming reception at the hotel on Sunday April 8th at 6 pm. All attendees welcome! Driving directions to the hotel from either Manchester or Boston airport are on the hotel's Web page. Driving directions from the hotel to Haystack will be available under Local Information, below.
