April 1999 Irkutsk/Baikal Trip


The CRDF research program between ISTP/RAS and Haystack supported exchange visits between the facilities in addition to radar technique development at the Irkutsk radar facility. In April, 1999, a visit to Irkutsk was arranged for John, Phil and Steve. A small radar conference was held at the Institute in Irkutsk and a cooperative exploration of Lake Baikal and surrounding regions was organized. Many long hours were spent developing joint programs, signal-processing techniques, and database access as a part of the cooperative research program.

Lake Baikal

The view looking across the southern reaches of Maloye More (the Small Sea) towards the main body of Lake Baikal is spectacular.
