Millstone RATE/Storm Experiment Nov 3 - 6, 1993
Comparison of Millstone Hill ISR elevation scans with radiotomography reconstructions of the perturbed mid-latitude ionosphere were made as a part of the Russian-American Tomography Experiment RATE Campaign. This work has been described by Foster et al [JIST].
DMSP Observations of Low-Latitude Topside Perturbation
DMSP F-10 overflew the perturbed ionosphere near the Millstone longitude and observed magnetically conjugate, topside density depletions coincident with ~1500 m/s horizontal and upward ion drift velocities. High-resolution density observations indicate that ionospheric irregularities with spatial wavelength < 40 km were uniformly enhanced in the region of the topside depletions. Power spectral density has been determined with 1024-pt FFT for the perturbed and adjacent background regions.
